Baa

Baa is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and the reason is Hanifaru Bay: a shallow inlet where currents concentrate plankton and, in season, draw manta rays and whale sharks in numbers seen almost nowhere else. Access is regulated — snorkellers only, limited numbers, no diving, and a ranger on site.

The atoll has a domestic airport at Dharavandhoo, which puts it within reach without a full day at sea. That combination — a short flight and a protected feeding ground — is what separates Baa from the atolls closer to Malé.
