Goidhoo

Goidhoo has just under six hundred residents and shares a reef with Fulhadhoo and Fehendhoo in the south of Baa Atoll. Of the three it is the largest, which on this reef means it has a school and a health post.

The three islands together form one of the quietest corners of a country that is not short of quiet corners. Guesthouse tourism here is small-scale and recent.

Baa is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and while Hanifaru Bay is the part everyone has heard of, the protection covers the whole atoll — including these reefs.

When to go

The southwest monsoon brings the plankton that makes Baa what it is, and with it the manta season at Hanifaru. Outside those months the atoll returns to being very quiet indeed.
