Velidhoo

Velidhoo has around eighteen hundred residents and sits in Noonu, an atoll better known to divers than to beach travellers. It is one of the few islands in the atoll set up for guesthouse tourism.

Noonu's eastern channels carry current, and current brings the larger species. That is the argument for coming this far north rather than staying in Ari, where the diving is easier to reach but busier.

Guesthouse tourism arrived here later than in the central atolls, and the island still has more residents than visitors on any given day.

When to go

Channel diving in Noonu depends on current rather than season. Visibility is generally better in the drier northeast monsoon months; the crossing or flight is more reliable then too.

Velidhoo is a village, not a resort. We have no bikini beach on file here — ask your guesthouse where swimwear is acceptable.
