Ukulhas
Ukulhas made its name doing something unglamorous: it sorts and manages its waste. On an archipelago where rubbish disposal is a genuine and visible problem, an island that took the issue seriously became known for it — and the result is a place that simply looks and feels cleaner than the average.
That reputation brought a particular kind of visitor, and the island has stayed calmer than its size would suggest. The reef sits close to shore along the northern side, the bikini beach is generous by local standards, and the pace rarely rises above unhurried.
It is a reasonable first local island for someone who wants the experience without the density of Maafushi, and a reasonable second one for someone who tried Maafushi and wanted less of everything.
